The one thing you can't buy at Amazon

spread some joy

You can buy just about anything at Amazon. A home? If you're willing to go pre-fab, then yes. A human finger? Affirmative. A bacon-scented mustache or roast beef bath soak? Yes and yes. In the market for a Nicholas Cage sequin pillow or a PB&J-of-the-month club? Amazon's got you covered. Certainly not uranium ore? You'd be wrong, my friend.

But that's just it! That's exactly what you can't buy at Amazon- friendship. And in honor of International Friendship Day, I'm giving thanks to some of the most important people in my life- my truth tellers, my cheerleaders, my lifelines.

You know those friends who SHOW UP for you no matter what? When your house burns down in the middle of the night and you need help sorting through what remains. When you fracture your pelvis into 8 pieces and can't wipe your own behind. When you're heartbroken over the death of a loved one, infertility or a break-up and need a friend to pick you up off the floor. When you've had a really bad day and the only remedy is drinking wine in your "quitters" with a friend on her porch.

Throughout my life, I've been blessed with so many genuine and meaningful friendships. The type of friendships in which I never have to pretend I'm someone I'm not. Friendships that are comfortable, nurturing and a whole lot of fun. Friendships with deep enough bonds that allow us to pick up right where we left off, even if it's been a while.

"The best kind of friendships are fierce lady friendships where you aggressively believe in each other, defend each other, and think the other deserves the world." -Unknown

The last few months have taught us a lot of lessons, one being the importance of friendships that endure life's highs and lows.  So carve out some time today (or soon!) to let your friends know just how much they mean to you.

That girlfriend you've been meaning to call but haven't found the right time? There's never a right time so just pick up the damn phone. That pal you're nervous to reach out to because it's been too long? Chances are he or she is feeling the same way and will appreciate the opportunity to reconnect. Whether it's via phone, video, email, snail mail or in person, take this opportunity to love on your friends.

To my dear friends, near and far, I love you, I miss you, I'm so damn grateful for you EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
